And the cold weather begins again...

Damn the cold weather has started up already. My hands, which have been pretty good this summer, were quite stiff. My left hip is not doing to well these past few days either. Poop. I need to move somewhere warmer.

Time to start planning holiday knits!

I think it's time to start figuring out what my holiday knit gifts are going to be so I can get a plan going!

Pattern Writing

I've been working on my first few patterns & so far so good. The scarf looked great, but I couldn't deal with the curling so it's getting an edge, it's in the will work on soon pile & I've 2 test knitters lined up for it. The sock is doing great, working the heel flap now & can't wait to see if the top of the foot will knit up like it looks in my head. The cowl is looking good so far, decided to change a few things, I only hope it gets done by tomorrow night when I need it as a gift. I'm about 1/3 of the way right now & just started writing & knitting it yesterday.

Sock Knitting

So I learned to knit this spring & am knitting socks. I have taken to it big time & do find it passes the time nicely. It's nice because I can do it while I'm sitting, which is how I spend the bulk of my day since my knees are shot. I have this post week tried to write 3 patterns, failed at one pattern, another is looking promising & the would be awesome if I could just work out a few kinks with it.

Another Post? Already?

Darn forgot that regular posting means I have to come up with interesting things to type on a regular basis!

Fell of the side of the Earth, trying to climb back on

Sorry for falling off the side of the planet, turns out it is flat. Seems we live on a discworld, but damn if I can find Nanny Ogg anywhere!

So I guess you can tell by my absence I've been feeling better. It comes from a mix of no longer working, making sure I get to bed & up at the same time every single day & most of all by the fact it's been summer. Summer is the best season for my EDS related pain, usually it sucks for migraines & because I don't cool well. This summer has been mild here so I've been feeling better than I have in 3-4 years. So I took a break from thinking about my disabilities, from talking about how I deal with them & so on.

I also realized that it's not interesting for me to write the same post day after day which boils down it "Ow, I have a hurt." Since I've been diagnosed there isn't much going on with the medical front. They know what's wrong with me & there is no making it go away. I've got orthotics for my shoes (that I don't wear since 1 fits well & the other doesn't), forearm crutches that I can't use much right now due to a crap elbow & a knee brace I don't wear as often as I ought to as I'm very slowly adjusting to the unloader in it.

So on to non-medical stuff. Life is chugging a long as if oft times does. I've gotten much better at my knitting & am enjoying it. I've even started a little knitting group that meets once a month. I started doing yoga at the Y, which I know sounds bad (EDS+Yoga=bad!), but it's power yoga which works to strengthen rather than working flexibility. I've a great instructor who knows I've EDS & I adapt some poses & skip others all together.

I think that's an ok, get off my ass & post kinda post. Perhaps again tomorrow.

A bit blue

I'm tired, tired, tired of being chronically ill. I feel like this isn't my life, I've no clue how I got here or what I'm supposed to do now.... What becomes of a woman in her early 30s who's disabled? My mind is sharp (well as much as the gabapentin allows, lol), I am a smart, vibrant, outgoing woman who sits at home all the time & it's depressing. I think about going to college, but can I keep up with the course loads? What would I even go to school for? Is there a job I could do? If so what is it? I guess I feel a bit like a waste.

Well I guess I'm a swinger now

I was knitting monogamously, just one project cast on at a time. It seems most knitters are swingers, sure they've got their main project, but they've got a few on the side as well. I have a scarf that I've been working on that's been driving me a bit batty (patterns with heavy amounts of YO & I aren't able to be good friends), so I've cast on the antimacassar my mother has been asking for over the last 3 months. If it was warmer (it's snowing today) I'd even think about trying my hand at learning to knit a sock, but since it's so cold my hands are a bit stiff.

Organizing the Knitting

As a newer knitter I don't have a ton of stuff, but I realized it was starting to take over my "office" so I decided best to get things under control while I still had a chance. I had an old Mary Kay sales rep bag & some nice stacking bins for yarn.

It's got tons of pockets & compartments so it's perfect for supplies & needles.

You can see I lost a few of these pouches, but I found some others that fit well. They are velcroed on so you can just pull them off which is nice.

The top two are my grab & go pouches, they have all the basic/common stuff I might need & they are duplicates. That way if I leave it in the car or where ever I still have all the supplies I could need handy. Then I have an empty one & one with the tails from projects, I just can't seem to toss them.

The top left has my KnitPicks cables, the top right by "everything else" pouch. I've cable needles, stitch markers, pins, row counter & even more in it. Then on the bottom I have my tips (still in the little baggies they come in) & next to that my smaller sock sized circulars.

On the flap are a few pockets, I have the little stoppers for the KnitPicks cords & I'm sure I'll fine more for the other pockets.

Then in the main compartment I have my straights & in the thin pocket just in front of it I have a bunch of mesh project bags, they are green & you can just barely see them.

Then I have my stackable bins for yarn. Right now I don't have much yarn so it's all in one. Once I have more I'll separate it up more. I have at least 8 of them so they should hold out ok for a while.
